2010 Press Release
LIFF Announces the Showing of The Red Chapel
Long Beach Island, New Jersey
June 1, 2010
Arrangements have just been finalized for the showing of The Red Chapel, the award winning Sundance Film Festival movie as the Opening Film of the Lighthouse International Film Festival on Friday, June 4 at 6:30 pm at the LBI Foundation of Arts and Sciences.
Danish journalist Mads Brugger took a Danish comedy group to North Korea under the guise of a cultural exchange. His plan was to use this Korean born duo to gain access into the heart of North Korea and expose aspects of the dictatorship never seen before. Believing this to be a good PR opportunity, the North Koreans take the bait and Mads manages to outwit their restrictions at every turn. The film uncovers aspects of North Korean culture and mentality not regularly seen and it is also a great insight into the dynamic of the three Danes.
Jacob, who is disabled and a self proclaimed spastic and his straight man counterpart Simon are hilarious as is Mrs. Pak their government guide and interpreter. This is a very ambitious film that seems to pull off the impossible and is highly recommended in light of current events.
